Setting up a virtual machine to host CanIt is covered in the Administrators Guide in the CanIt HOWTOS Appendix, in the section "Migrating CanIt to a Different Machine".
The keys to success are:
- Avoid the under-provisioning trap;
- Make sure to provision enough resources so that the server is never heavily loaded;
- Ensure that you have expertise and support for your VM environment. Understand that our ability to provide performance related support is limited.
