We don't include all the prerequisites for VMWare tools in our repository. Here's what you have to do:

  1. To install the VMWare guest tools temporarily, add a line like this to /etc/apt/sources.list (or create a debian.list file in the /etc/apt/sources.list.d/ sub-directory):
    deb wheezy main contrib non-free
    deb wheezy/updates main contrib
(If the curent sources.list file uses squeeze instead of wheezy, adjust accordingly or CanIt will break! In addition, You can use a closer Debian mirror than '' if you know of one.)
  2. Run: apt-get update; apt-get install open-vm-tools
  3. Once you're done, we recommend commenting out the lines in /etc/apt/sources.list, or if you used /etc/apt/sources.list.d/debian.list, to avoid any surprises in a future upgrade.
