Release readies Hosted CanIt for the Next Generation of the Internet
Roaring Penguin Software Inc. announces the support of IPv6 for the current release of the Hosted CanIt anti spam service. Roaring Penguin's on premise solutions, CanIt-PRO and CanIt-Domain-PRO have supported IPv6 since August 2009.
The following features of Hosted CanIt work over both IPv6 and IPv4:
- Acceptance of inbound mail from the Internet.
- Delivery of outbound mail to the Internet.
- Mail, LDAP, IMAP and POP3 traffic between the Hosted CanIt cluster and back-end customer servers.
- HTTPS access to the Hosted CanIt web portal.
IPv6 is short for "Internet Protocol Version 6". IPv6 is the "next generation" protocol designed by the Internet Engineering Task Force IETF to replace the current version Internet Protocol, IP Version 4 ("IPv4").
IPv6 fixes a number of problems in IPv4, such as the limited number of available IPv4 addresses. It also adds many improvements to IPv4 in areas such as routing and network autoconfiguration. IPv6 is expected to gradually replace IPv4, with the two coexisting for a number of years during a transition period.
